{"id":1247,"date":"2019-12-17T14:36:46","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T14:36:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mru.int\/?p=1247"},"modified":"2024-08-23T04:06:21","modified_gmt":"2024-08-23T04:06:21","slug":"mru-freetown-declaration-focuses-on-policies-for-renewable-energy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mru.int\/en\/mru-freetown-declaration-focuses-on-policies-for-renewable-energy\/","title":{"rendered":"MRU \u2018Freetown Declaration\u2019 focuses on policies for renewable energy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Member countries of the Mano River Union (MRU), Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea and Cote d\u2019Ivoire after a two day multi-stakeholder Renewable Energy and Clean Cooking Conference at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown, developed the \u201cFreetown Declaration,\u201d which focuses on policy formulation and harmonization.<\/p>\n<p>The scope of the conference was to allow an in-depth discussion on specific technical areas and financing options of relevance for the uptake of renewable energy, while identifying concrete opportunities for regional cooperation, to ensure a practical, \u2018first-hand\u2019 element alongside the more typical plenary set and the policy material that will support parliamentarians and political decision makers to implement the outcome of the event.<\/p>\n<p>The event put together five themes; energy access, sub-regional power trade, the energy nexus, clean cooking and utilities infrastructures.\u00a0The 11 declaration points developed by MRU member countries acknowledges that, \u201cWe recognize that current global developments and specific circumstances in the sub-region require that we urgently build consensus on renewable energy.
