AMBASSADOR MARIA G. HARRISON APPOINTED NEW SECRETARY-GENERAL OF MANO RIVER UNION

Member States of the Mano River Union have endorsed the nomination and appointment of Ambassador Maria G. Harrison as Secretary-General of the Sub-regional entity. The appointment follows the expiration of term of the eighth Secretary-General, Ambassador Medina Wesseh Esq who has been in office since 2017.  

“It is a great honour to be entrusted with the opportunity of serving the people of the Mano River Union Countries; Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea and Ivory Coast have a rich history of cooperation and mutual support,” Ambassador Harrison expressed.

“It is a great privilege to build on the achievements of my predecessor by working with the various leaders and institutions in these countries to strengthen cultural and diplomatic ties, while also promoting regional integration and economic development in these countries,” she added.

Ambassador Harrison has had a fulfilling and meaningful career in both public and private sectors where she has worked to advance human dignity for all persons from her earlier roles as a technological expert – driving policies that promote universal digital access – all the way to her more recent role as international relations advisor serving Liberia at the United Nations General Assembly.

“My top priority for the MRU is to work hard to promote regional integration in the sub-region through improvements in infrastructure for Information Communication Technology (ICT), Agriculture, Energy among others,” she emphasized.

She added “I want to make the MRU more innovative, effective and transparent with ICT as our most formidable catalytic tool.”

Madam Harrison took office at the Mano River Union Secretariat Headquarters in Freetown, Sierra Leone on 10th November 2022.
