Scaling-up Renewable Energy and Clean Cooking Solutions in the MRU Region
The Scaling-up Renewable Energy and Clean Cooking Solutions project is an essential initiative aimed at addressing energy deficits in the Mano River Union region, particularly in rural and remote areas. The project seeks to promote the use of renewable energy sources and clean cooking technologies, which are critical for reducing dependency on traditional fuels, improving public health, and enhancing the quality of life for low-income populations.
The project is currently in the preparatory phase, with a regional study on renewable energy and clean cooking solutions completed by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The MRU Secretariat is actively seeking additional technical and financial support to implement the recommendations of this study, with the goal of making sustainable energy more accessible and affordable across the region.
Key objectives of the project include the vulgarization of renewable energy and clean cooking solutions, the facilitation of private sector development in these areas, and the bridging of the energy deficit in underserved communities. By ensuring that energy solutions are affordable for low-income citizens, the project also aims to contribute to socioeconomic growth at the grassroots level and reduce sociopolitical pressures related to energy access.
The MRU Secretariat is coordinating the efforts of various stakeholders, including national governments, private sector partners, and international organizations, to ensure the successful implementation of this project.
