The BRIDGE 5 project represents a strategic initiative to strengthen water governance and security in the Mano River Union region. The project is premised on the understanding that effective management of shared water resources is essential for regional stability, economic development, and environmental sustainability. By building governance capacities and promoting water diplomacy, BRIDGE 5 aims to address the complex challenges associated with transboundary water management in the MRU sub-region.

Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), in partnership with IUCN and other international organizations, the project focuses on several key objectives. These include the strengthening of shared water agreements and institutions, ensuring inclusive participation in water resource management, and enhancing financial sustainability for transboundary water governance.

A significant emphasis of the project is placed on the role of women in decision-making processes related to water management. BRIDGE 5 seeks to improve access to knowledge and finance for women, recognizing their critical role in achieving sustainable water governance. The MRU Secretariat coordinates the implementation of the project across the MRU member states, working closely with national governments and local communities to ensure the project’s objectives are met.
