The Election Observation project is a vital component of the Mano River Union’s efforts to promote democratic governance and political stability within the sub-region. The MRU Secretariat has been actively involved in fielding election observation missions during key elections in member states, including recent elections in Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Funded by the MRU Secretariat, the project aims to ensure that electoral processes in the MRU member states are conducted transparently, fairly, and in accordance with international standards. The presence of election observers helps to build public confidence in the electoral process, reduces the likelihood of electoral fraud, and contributes to the overall stability of the region.

In addition to observing elections, the project also includes training for election observers and the development of best practices for election observation in the MRU context. The MRU Secretariat works closely with national electoral commissions, civil society organizations, and international partners to implement this project, which is ongoing and continues to play a critical role in strengthening democracy in the region.
