Strengthening the Capacity of Joint Border Security and Confidence Building Units (JBSCBUs)
The Strengthening the Capacity of Joint Border Security and Confidence Building Units (JBSCBUs) project is a crucial initiative aimed at enhancing regional security and stability within the Mano River Union. The project addresses cross-border crimes, which are a significant concern for the member states, by improving the capacity of border security units to monitor and control their respective borders effectively.
Supported by the United Nations system, the project has established thirty-eight Joint Border Security and Confidence Building Units (JBSCBUs) at key border points, including Jendema/Bo Waterside, Diecké/Ganta, and Minignan/Saladou. These units are strategically located to cover critical Class A and B border points where cross-border crimes are most prevalent.
The MRU Secretariat plays a central role in coordinating the efforts of the JBSCBUs, working closely with national security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that the units are adequately equipped and trained to carry out their functions. The project is ongoing and continues to contribute to the overall peace and security of the MRU region by fostering collaboration and trust between the member states.
